It’s been determined that around 2 million people are waiting to adopt in our country. Many of
these people are looking to adopt Hard to Place Children. Those are children with certain
physical or emotional characteristics that make adoption more difficult. My guest is Jan Vest
from Diamondhead, Mississippi. He and his wife, Jane, are a couple who did just that. Their son,
Scott, is an adult now with a son of his own. Their journey is nothing short of a testament to
persevering through adversity as Scott was diagnosed with attachment disorder from trauma
suffered at the hands of his biological parents. Jan will tell Scott’s story – and the story of their
family – of how they’ve overcome the challenges of Scott’s diagnosis.
Jan was the former CEO at Signature Medical Group, an independent multi-specialty group of
130 physicians in 17 specialties and over 850 employees in St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri.
SMG has lead an orthopedic initiative in the country to improve quality of care and reduce cost
in Medicare joint replacement patients. They’ve successfully implemented new models of
prenatal care that have reduced premature births in Missouri Medicaid women. He’s a former
member of many medical boards related to orthopedic executives, healthcare initiatives, and
healthcare foundations. In 2015, Jan was selected as the Medical Practice Executive of the Year
by the Medical Group Practice Management Association.
