For the past 10 years, Sharon C. McGee has been the primary caregiver for her 68-year-old husband Arthur who has Frontotemporal Dementia. Arthur currently resides in the memory care unit of an assisted living center. Sharon has also provided assistance and care to her mother who had Parkinson’s with Lewy Bodies Dementia. She’s a professor at Southern University at New Orleans in its Health Information Management Systems program and consults with hospitals and physician practices in medical coding, billing, and compliance. She serves as a Community Educator for the Alzheimer’s Association and frequently speaks on topics related to Alzheimer’s, dementia, and caregiving. Sharon will talk with Gary about what it’s like caring for a person with dementia, the toll it’s taken on her family, and how she and her family have persevered.
