Vitality. I believe in being strong and active - physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally - but in a Mytality sort of way. No one can do it for me. I must take responsibility for my well-being ad much as I can for as long as I am able.
I was in Mobile, Alabama, on November 19, 2016, when I asked a urologist what an oncologist would do about the 10 x 11 cm tumor that had grown in my bladder and metastasized to my right lung. “What’s the point?” he responded, indicating that my cancer was too advanced to save my life and to try any treatment. I was dumbfounded. The point? I could think of several points, including watching my granddaughters grow to womanhood, traveling to places I hadn’t been, and doing things I had yet to do.
I was blessed to have Dr. Lawrence Einhorn at IU Health in Indianapolis as my oncologist in 2005 when I went through testicular cancer. He saved Lance Armstrong in his battle. I called Dr. Einhorn first thing who put me in contact with several exceptional specialists, including Costantine Albany MD, Richard Bihrle MD, Kenneth Kesler MD, and Michael House MD., who worked tirelessly to restore my health.
After my cancer returned and I had a lobectomy to rid the tumor from my lung, I sat down to write a book about what I’d learned through my experience. I had several chapters written when I stopped - disappointed in what I’d written. Somehow, the words just didn’t convey what I’d truly learned and what I wanted to say about perseverance.
A trip to New Orleans to visit a dear friend, Eric Falgout, who had an ongoing podcast about his experience with ADHD. He invited me to be on his show to talk about the mystery books I began writing after my diagnosis. A podcast! Yes! A podcast was exactly what I needed to get my message to those who were interested.
And, thus, Mytality! began. A studio was built in Metairie, Louisiana, within the metro New Orleans area, and guests will add their take to persevering through adversity with their stories. But the emphasis will be on you. On your vitality. Providing you with resources to live a life well … to give you the courage through knowledge to make it happen.
